I Won’t Keep You Long…

Quick question… Do you remember who flicked your switch?

Get your head out of the gutter I mean that marketer, mentor, coach or friend that switched the light bulb on for you?

The brilliant Alex Jeffreys did it for me

Everyone I ask remembers that one guy or gal that changed the way they viewed making money online…

Maybe I can be the one to flick your switch? I hope so

Up until Alex Jeffreys I was stumbling about on YouTube and Google thinking I was learning from the insiders of Digital Marketing but looking back I was mainly listening to low quality affiliate marketers peddling get rich gimmicks, magic plugins and loopholes…

These days you can go on YouTube and learn a lot from very successful digital marketers because YouTube has changed in the last few years and we now have some high quality entrepreneurs on there to listen to and follow… That shift has happened quite quickly.

The problem is if you’re brand new, it’s not easy to tell the good guys from the bad guys, making it a bit like russian roulette when you type the famous search term for the first time “how to make money online” and this is why I got tripped up…

I fell for the big claims and the clown on the video who happened to be a very clever clown at building an audience to sell to…

Lesson #1. Always remember to learn from what marketers do.

Luckily for me I stumbled upon Alex Jeffreys very quickly so I didn’t spend years getting badly burned… I mean you do hear some real horror stories don’t you?

In fact, my first ever mentor Dean Holland ended up in 60 grands worth of debt from doing what I was doing and what most of us do when we come online buying shiny objects that we think are quick fixes that feed our hopes and dreams as well as give us that hit of dopamine…

It’s so easy to do and maybe you’ve been burned too

Of course, we all have to take some responsibility for our actions but it’s not difficult to end up going further and further down the rabbit hole…

Hopefully I can stop this happening to you.

Truth is, we come online when things aren’t going great in our lives. Maybe we’ve lost our job, been made redundant, been made disabled, got an illness, or maybe we’re sick and tired of the daily grind of going to a job we detest…

We don’t enter this business in the best frame of mind, so we’re looking for a way out of the misery or we’re looking for a way to change the status quo and hopefully improve ours and our families everyday lives…

Maybe you’re staring at retirement like the barrel of a gun worried for the future, or just wanting the retirement you dreamed of all your life… so again you become a target as you’re looking for fast results and because we’re looking for fast results what do you think happens?

We’re easy prey for clever copywriters because:

They know the market inside out
They know all your pain points
They know what you want most

A very good copywriter will know you better than you know yourself… they can trigger emotions in you that you never thought could be triggered with words to convince you that the product in front of you is gonna solve all your problems and get the new “stress free” you back…

You see it really isn’t all your fault.

I fell for the big claims like “make $2,000 in one day on eBay” and “make $500 in one hour with turnkey business”… These big claim headlines are all over YouTube and they can suck you in when you’re desperate and on a low ebb…

Don’t get me wrong now, there’s a lot of good stuff out there but it’s just a shame we all seem to enter this industry via the sewer. Trouble is as with every industry… Wherever there’s money there’s scumbags and rip off merchants…

There’s nothing wrong with good copywriting that does it’s job in selling a product but if the products a lie then it becomes something else right? Those people are thieves in my eyes and the type of people I stay away from…

Anyone pushing the get rich quick crap is a tosser.

Listen, you’re no mug… You know that to get anything worthwhile in life and to become wealthy it’s going to take hard work. You’re going to have to put in hours and learn some skills…

It’s just a different type of hard work but if you make a plan and get it right you’ll be working hard but you’re not breaking your back working for peanuts:

You’re not digging up roads
You don’t sitting in busy traffic
You get to see your family

The best thing about being a digital marketer is that you don’t need to have got good grades at school. In fact most online entrepreneurs are very similar in that most of us dropped out of school… I’d go as far to say that the best digital marketers are flawed characters who’ve failed a lot in life…

Take me, I was hopeless at school.

I properly messed up school and all my grades because I hated every minute of school…

Only in adult life have I come to realize that severe anxiety was to blame and that anxiety followed me into adult life and plagued me there too holding me back from doing the things that I really deep down wanted to do…

This made me misserable

So no surprises that by the age of 17 I was dabbling with heroin after dabbling with just about every drug on the black market…

I ended up losing my teens and most of my 20’s to drug addiction self medicating the anxiety we thinkĀ  triggered from losing both my nan and grandad within three months of each other both from lung cancer when I was just 10.

You can imagine what that did to my dad

A lot of damage was done to our family and me being a very sensitive 10 year old middle child turned my grief inwards so not to upset my dad more and made myself mentally ill…

So I really struggled with education and life in general

What’s crazy though is at what… around 40… I found this real thirst for education and learning new skills, so I fully immersed myself into digital marketing… particularly email marketing, advertising and storytelling…

I fell in love with direct marketing seeking out the best in the fields I’m most interested in from Andre Chaperon, Ben Settle to Charles Kirkland, Matt Bacak and Justin Brookes…

As Matt Bacak teaches… If you want to know something go straight to the source. Don’t hang about… So I go straight to the guys that are at the top of their game…

It’s why I pay to get on a call once a month with Matt Bacak

If you want to be successful you’ve got to be willing to do what successful people do and invest in learning from those that have been where you are now…

I got clean from 10+ years of heroin addiction by listening to people who’d been where I was.

I know how to beat the odds

Most people fail in this industry because they quit… Unless you’re quitting a drug addiction or another negative then obviously don’t quit. It’s gonna take time and it’s gonna get frustrating…

I’m not gonna tell you it’s gonna be easy

Every man and their dog are going to tell you to stop because of their own self limiting beliefs… Your family are going to tell you they’re worried about you because your spending too much time on your computer….

Funny, they never worried when you was doing 12 hour shifts making your boss rich eh?

Some of them will even snigger behind your back and hope you fail…

Prove them wrong and then snigger at them with their broke mindset.

You only need to get four things right to be successful online…
